Supporting Life-Saving Care: Splash of Sparkle Benefiting Hunterdon Health’s Mobile Intensive Care Unit

Hunterdon Health’s Mobile Intensive Care Unit: The Life-Saving Focus of Splash of Sparkle 2026
This year’s Splash of Sparkle is about more than an elegant Sunday brunch — it’s about saving lives.
Hosted by the Hunterdon Health Auxiliary, the Splash of Sparkle benefit will directly support the Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) of Hunterdon Health and its critical prehospital blood administration initiative. At Hunterdon Hematology Oncology (HHO), we are proud to sponsor and attend this meaningful event, knowing the powerful impact it will have across our community.
The Mobile Intensive Care Unit: An Extension of the Emergency Room
Hunterdon Health’s Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) provides high-quality prehospital emergency medicine throughout Hunterdon County. These specialized ambulances are staffed by Hunterdon Medical Center’s most highly trained Advanced Life Support paramedics and equipped with sophisticated technology to treat:
- Cardiac emergencies
- Stroke patients
- Victims of severe trauma
- Other life-threatening conditions
In New Jersey, a MICU is automatically dispatched based on the medical or traumatic complaint reported to 9-1-1. EMTs providing Basic Life Support can also request a MICU when a patient’s condition becomes critical.
Hunterdon Health operates four MICU units, strategically located in Raritan Township, Glen Gardner, Lambertville, and Lopatcong Township. These units complement the care provided by local first aid squads and fire departments and function as a direct extension of the Emergency Department at Hunterdon Medical Center. Through real-time voice communication with ER physicians, MICU teams assess, stabilize, and treat patients wherever care is needed — at home, on the roadside, or en route to the hospital.
Simply put: They bring the emergency room to the patient.
The 2026 Focus: Prehospital Blood Administration Initiative
This year, funds raised at Splash of Sparkle will support a groundbreaking and life-saving initiative — prehospital blood administration.
This initiative allows MICU teams to deliver blood transfusions to patients before they reach the Emergency Department. In severe trauma cases, blood loss is often the most immediate and life-threatening factor. Early blood administration can dramatically improve survival rates.
To safely deliver blood in the field, two essential pieces of equipment are needed:
- Specialized fluid warmers to ensure blood is warmed to the proper temperature for safe transfusion
- Medical-grade coolers to properly store and preserve blood products during transport
With community support, Splash of Sparkle will help fund the purchase of these critical devices — empowering paramedics to intervene sooner and save more lives.
This initiative represents innovation, preparedness, and a deep commitment to advancing emergency medicine in Hunterdon County.

Making a Difference Before Patients Reach the Hospital
In oncology care, we understand how critical timing can be. The same is true in emergency medicine. The ability to administer blood in the field could mean the difference between life and loss for trauma patients across our region.
By supporting Splash of Sparkle, you are helping equip the Mobile Intensive Care Unit with the tools necessary to respond faster, treat sooner, and save more lives.
We hope you will join us as we gather, give back, and raise vital funds for a service that protects our community every single day.
