Facing Cancer? You Don’t Have to Do It Alone
Each year, millions of individuals and families are affected by cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated 2.1 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in the United States in 2026. The National Cancer Institute also recognizes 18.6 million cancer survivors across the country, a reminder that cancer touches not only patients, but also caregivers, families, friends, and entire communities.
At Hunterdon Hematology Oncology, we know that a cancer diagnosis can bring many questions. What happens next? What resources are available? How can I support someone I love? How do I take care of my body, mind, and overall well-being during treatment and beyond?
While no one can control every part of the cancer journey, learning more, asking questions, and connecting with the right support can help patients and families feel more informed, more prepared, and less alone.
Finding Support During the Cancer Journey
Cancer care is about more than treatment alone. Patients may need help understanding their diagnosis, managing side effects, making lifestyle changes, navigating nutrition, addressing emotional health, or learning about family risk. Caregivers and loved ones may also need support as they help someone through appointments, treatment decisions, recovery, and daily life.
For many people, one of the most meaningful first steps is simply knowing where to turn.
Community resources can help patients and families better understand the different areas of cancer care, including prevention, screening, treatment, rehabilitation, wellness, and survivorship. These resources can also create opportunities to connect with healthcare professionals, ask questions, and learn about supportive services close to home.
What Can You Do When You or Someone You Love Is Facing Cancer?
Every person’s experience with cancer is different, but there are a few positive steps that may help patients, caregivers, family members, and friends feel more supported.
Learn as much as you can from trusted sources
Cancer information can feel overwhelming, especially when searching online. Talking with your care team and attending educational events can help you better understand your diagnosis, treatment options, prevention strategies, and supportive care resources.
Ask questions early and often
There is no such thing as a bad question when it comes to your health. Whether you are wondering about side effects, nutrition, family risk, rehabilitation, or emotional support, asking questions can help you feel more confident and involved in your care.
Take care of your overall well-being
Cancer can affect the body, mind, and spirit. Supportive services such as nutrition counseling, smoking cessation resources, mental health support, rehabilitation, wellness programs, and gentle movement can all play a role in helping patients and families through the cancer journey.
Let others support you
Many patients and caregivers feel pressure to stay strong or manage everything on their own. But support can come in many forms, from attending an educational program to speaking with a healthcare professional, joining a support resource, or allowing family and friends to help with everyday needs.
Join Us for the Cancer Resource Health Fair
To help patients, caregivers, families, and friends connect with helpful information and local support, Hunterdon Hematology Oncology invites the community to attend an upcoming Cancer Resource Health Fair.
This event is designed to provide support, resources, and hope for those facing cancer, supporting a loved one, or looking to learn more about cancer prevention and wellness.
