Celebrating Strength and Survivorship: A Look Back at the Moving Beyond Cancer Event
On June 20, 2024, the Hunterdon Hematology Oncology team, in collaboration with the Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center, hosted an incredible afternoon of inspiration, education, and community at the “Moving Beyond Cancer: Survivorship” event. Held under the tent behind Hunterdon Medical Center, this event brought together cancer survivors, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and loved ones to celebrate resilience and healing.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our event partners—the Hunterdon Mercer Chronic Disease Coalition, New Jersey Cancer Education and Early Detection (NJCEED), and the Elixir Fund—for their invaluable support in making this event a success.
An Afternoon of Healing and Connection
The event was designed to empower survivors and their loved ones with knowledge, resources, and wellness practices to support their journey beyond cancer. Attendees had the opportunity to engage in educational discussions on topics such as cancer prevention, oncology rehabilitation and wellness, guided meditation, oncology nutrition, and medicinal cannabis.
Event Highlights
Welcome and Sign-In
Guests were greeted with warm smiles as they checked in, connected with fellow attendees, and explored various resource tables set up to provide information on cancer support programs and survivorship resources.
Guided Meditation
The evening began with a peaceful and restorative meditation session, offering attendees an opportunity to relax, reflect, and embrace mindfulness as a tool for healing. This session was particularly meaningful for many, as it provided techniques for reducing stress and improving emotional well-being.
Yoga Demonstration
Following meditation, attendees were invited to participate in a gentle yoga demonstration, focused on movement, flexibility, and breathing techniques tailored for cancer patients and survivors. The session was a beautiful reminder of the importance of physical activity in the recovery process.
Collaborative Painting with Oncology on Canvas
One of the most memorable moments was the collaborative painting activity sponsored by Oncology on Canvas from Lilly. Survivors, caregivers, and supporters came together to contribute their creativity to a shared piece of art, symbolizing strength, unity, and hope. This artwork will be proudly displayed in the Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center as a tribute to the courageous journeys of all those touched by cancer.
A Special Thank You
This event would not have been possible without the dedication of our program partners, activity sponsors, and all those who contributed their time and expertise. We sincerely thank the Hunterdon Mercer Chronic Disease Coalition, NJCEED, and the Elixir Fund for their unwavering commitment to supporting cancer survivors and promoting health education in our community.
To everyone who attended—thank you for being part of this special day. Your stories, resilience, and strength continue to inspire us all.
